SALVATORE AND MARY LUPOLI
REVERE BEACH, 1940

Sal Lupoli’s grandparents came to America from Italy and started their first business on Revere Beach Parkway in Revere, Massachusetts in 1940. Their thriving pizza business helped Sal’s grandfather secure the funding he needed to eventually start his dream company, importing and selling olive oil.
Young Sal was very close to his family and often enjoyed big family meals that included his grandmother’s signature sauce. The secret sauce recipe was handed down to Sal’s mother, who then handed it down to Sal.
Inspired by his grandparents’ success, a young Sal Lupoli honed his pizza and sauce-making skills in the kitchens of Boston’s North End. He would use his grandmother’s original recipe to develop the sauces featured in his pizza stores and retail pizza products.

In 1990, Sal Lupoli opened his first pizza store with his brother Nick in Salem, New Hampshire. Inspired by Boston’s North End eateries, the Lupoli brothers used fresh ingredients, prepared their dough daily, and established a reputation for the best quality. Originally, Sal’s Pizza was known as ”Sal’s Just Pizza” since they focused on what they did best – serving the largest pizza at the lowest price. Their 19-inch three-pound pizza quickly became a legend and is the cornerstone of every Sal’s Pizza store today. Sal went on to open several more stores and also offers franchise opportunities.

He quickly grew Sal’s Pizza to 130+ stores across New England.
